The Lions have an event split on signings on the first two days of free-agency. They’ve added two players on offense and two on defense.
On Saturday, the Lions agreed to terms with wide receiver Bryant Johnson, according to published and broadcast reports. Johnson was a first-rond draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2004 who spent 2008 with San Francisco and caught 45 passes. Also on Saturday, the Lions signed conrerback Eric King of Tennessee and confirmed the signing of running back Maurice Morris of Seatte.
Those deals were overshadowed by the trade of quarterback Jon Kitna to Dallas for cornerback Anthony Henry.
Henry has been a career-long starter for Cleveland and Dallas. King was mostly a backiup in three seasons with Tennessee and one with Buffalo.
Maurice was a productive backup for seven seasons in Seattle. The Seahawks drafted him on the second round in 2002, the same year the Lions took Joey Harrington on the first round. Harrington and Morris were teammates at Oregon.
Morris will be a backup to Kevin Smith, the Lions’ second-year tailback.
