My Pick When Stafford Gets Starting Job

My quick take on Jim Schwartz leaving the starting QB job open is that I’d do the same thing. That doesn’t make Schwartz right – or me right – but it passes my smell test to have Daunte Culpepper and Matthew Stafford compete for the starting job in training camp.
Here’s how I rate the odds on when Stafford will be the starter:
Opening game, at New Orleans: 8 percent. Culpepper’s experience gives the Lions the best—but very slim—chance to start the season with a win.‘
Game 5: 45 percent. It’s the third home game. vs. Pittsburgh.
Game 7: 99.8 percent. It’s the week after the bye, at home, vs. St. Louis. Only a winning record – and that’s unlikely with a strong early schedule—or some kind of freakish injury to Stafford, will keep Daunte Culpepper in the starting lineup after six games. The Rams stink, and that helps.
