Shoulder Injury Could Put Sims on Shelf

The first major injury of the season could leave the Lions without starting weak-side linebacker Ernie Sims for an extended period of time.
Sims injured his right shoulder late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 27-13 loss to Green Bay.
At his weekly press conference Monday, coach Jim Schwartz would not speculate on how long Sims will be out.
“He’s got a significant shoulder,” Schwartz said. “Whether it’s a week-to-week thing, whether it’s longer than that, we’ll find out more in the next couple days. Maybe not even in the next couple days.
“It might be something that takes a little bit of time to see where it is. But it’s not a day-to-day thing>
Rookie Deandre Levy, a third-round draft pick, is a candidate to replace Sims. Levy played outside and middle linebacker in training camp.
“It spread him a little thin and maybe set him back as far as the learning curve,” Schwartz said. “But then after he went through that, it all sort of processed for him, and he was better for it.”

I never like to see someone lose their job due to injury. The coaches should have made a change at this position a long time ago. Ernie Sims continues to overrun plays, miss tackles and generally get outmuscled. Maybe a little watching from the sidelines will help him understand the situation better.
