Injuries Keep Calvin, Stafford, Out of Practice

Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford did not practice Wednesday because of an injured right knee, leaving open the possibility that Daunte Culpepper will start Sunday’s home game against Pittsburgh.
Wide receiver Calvin Johnson, the Lions’ top offensive threat, also did not practice Wednesday.
Coach Jim Schwartz made the announcement on the two players after practice.
The official injury report, listing the status of all players for Sunday’s game, will be made Friday afternoon.
Johnson and Stafford both were injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss at Chicago. Johnson was hit on the thigh and said he did not think the injury was serious.
Stafford’s right knee was twisted on a sack, and his kneecap temporarily slid out of its capsule, according to multiple reports attributed to sources.
Culpepper finished Sunday’s game and looked rusty. He had not played since the third exhibition game.
Culpepper led the offense in Wednesday’s practice. Drew Stanton was the No. 2 quarterback.
Stafford and Culpepper did not speak to the media Wednesday.
