Advice to Lions: Do What NFL Teams Have Done to Pacman Jones—Pass on Him, Avoid the Risk

If the Lions sign troubled – and trouble-making – defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones – it will represent a change of direction at the franchise’s highest level.
The Lions have watched Jones work out and reportedly have had contract talks. Jones could be signed as early as next week, according to reports.
However, nothing is certain, and it pays to take everything involving Jones with a pillar of salt.
This isn’t the first time Jones has been under consideration by the Lions. Under the previous management regime, the possibility of signing Jones was floated to owner William Clay Ford.
Ford’s response, according to sources familiar with the situation, was succinct – along the line of “how are you going to keep him off Eight Mile?”
Eight Mile is the notorious – some would say glorious – boulevard where many of Metro Detroit’s strip clubs are located. And Jones, as everyone knows, has a jones for strip clubs. They’ve been the root of much of his trouble in his truncated NFL career.
Tennessee drafted Jones on the first round out of West Virginia in 2005, and he showed promise as a cover cornerback and return man, until his troubles befell him.
Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Jones for the 2007 season. Jones landed in Dallas in 2008, played nine games and was cut loose again by owner/GM Jerry Jones after showing very little.
Jones has a link to the Lions. Head coach Jim Schwartz was Tennessee’s defensive coordinator when Jones was a Titan.
That should give Schwartz an edge in the evaluation process of Jones.
And in one man’s opinion – that would be mine – the experience should give Schwartz the insight to pass on a player who already was given a second chance with the Cowboys and proved that he can’t be trusted.

I agree with you. I thought Pacman shouldn’t ever be allowed
to play in NFL again. When Dallas picked he up I thought good Jerry Jones deserves him. ( not a Dallas fan ) Then assign him a body guard, now you have two idiots going to strip clubs. But now i’m thinking it’s the Lions. If Detroit can get him cheap and on the condition the first time he screws up or he’s a distraction, his contract is void and he’s gone. Detroit hasn’t got anything to lose. The Lions need bodies.
